When I was in a gallery, I had so many different kinds of people come through. Many of them didn't have much any idea of what art is nor insight to what being an artist is. You can choose to be offended or you can be the one who introduces them to art through the relatable story you bring. I had this one young man who came to my area in the gallery during an event and he outright said I don't know anything about art. He didn't want to assume anything. I said I wish more people would be upfront about their experience.
Each artist's story has its own relatable uniqueness. So many artists don't put a story by their art. It leaves big questions on the potiential collector's mind. I understand the work does need to give the collector room to make their own life align with the artist's work. After all, they are going to be living with the art for the rest of their life. You want to be a part of their life and bringing the high value through memories to hold.
