Growing up my father was alcoholic. He has schizophrenia. Those two don’t mix since he would have an explosive temper. He went to AA and still drank alcohol. My parents would have so many violent fights and arguments. It tore the family apart from the addiction to the abuse. In having the environment as a child there was a major sense of separation and a weak connection to family by distance apart. Years later my father divorced my mother and quit drinking alcohol. To this day, my father regrets drinking alcohol and wishes he could take it back.
From there on my instagram account, a young girl came to me and said, your work inspires me to get the help I need to overcome my addiction. She said she has no sober friends. I offered to be her sober friends. I said, your life is invaluable more then any drug to save your life now. From there, she went to rehab to get the help she needed so much. As I connect the dots, I think what can I do to help more people with addictions since I have seen it tear down and destroy families such as mine.
I am offering more prints of my work to be a stepping stone to help people with addiction to say, “This is the symbol of the day, I take ownership over my life to overcome my addiction. By putting this as a benchmark, a new door opens up to dedicating your life to being sober and in the present today.
